Top 5: Most influential British comedians

For the Straydogs #4 on humour we’ve been inspired by a list commissioned by Gold Comedy TV channel. Here are the Brits’ choice of most influential British comedians of all times – and some of their best moments:

5. Ricky Gervais (from the Office)

4. Ronnie Barker (from the Porridge, the Two Ronnies and Open All Hours)

2. Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean and Blackadder)

2. David Jason (Only Fools and Horses)

1. John Cleese (Monthy Pyhton and Faulty Towers)

And they were something completely different, indeed! John Cleese, born in Weston-super-Mare, was named most influential comedy icon.

By the way, half of those polled said modern comedians are not as funny as classic comedy actors, and seven in ten Brits enjoy watching re-runs of old comedy shows over the Christmas period.

Perhaps you should look at this post, and tell us if modern comedy really is no laughing matter?
